Nose

Text, photos, and videos by Dr. Forley

Nasal surgery, known as rhinoplasty, can improve the appearance of the nose externally as well as the internal functioning of the nasal airways. Internal procedures correct deformities of the nasal septum or turbinates which can obstruct the nasal airway. Rhinoplasty is said to be an operation of millimeters because frequently very small changes can determine whether the result appears natural or surgical. Dr. Forley will discuss your concerns during your consultation, perform both an internal and external nasal exam, and develop an anatomically based plan for surgery. He will also create a 3D simulation to assist in your visualization of the planned outcome.

Importance Of Aesthetics

  • Each nose is different and requires an individualized approach
  • Balance nasal aesthetics with the surrounding aesthetics of the face
  • Subtle changes are the hallmark of a natural result

In many respects, the anatomic structure of the nose determines the outcome. The surgical interventions that reduce, augment, or reshape the existing nasal anatomy are utilized to achieve a post-operative anatomic framework that defines the result.

Preserving the positive aspects of your nose can often be as important as altering the areas that need improvement so that your nose will blend aesthetically with your face, but not appear overly operated. Performing the same operation on every patient will work for some but will produce unnecessary changes in others that will detract from their overall result.

Internal nasal anatomy that obstructs the airway must be precisely analyzed by physical exam and, in some cases, with adjunctive imaging tools such as a CT scan to determine the cause. The nasal septum, nasal bones, and nasal turbinates can all contribute to breathing problems and need to be addressed individually. Medical issues that can affect breathing, such as allergies and chronic sinus infections, are referred to the appropriate specialists.

3D Imaging

  • Get a preview of the proposed result
  • See your transition from before to after with our morphing tool
  • Visualize the planned changes and give important feedback to Dr. Forley

The value of 3D imaging in nose surgery is that it enables you to get a preview of the proposed result. Dr. Forley will take photographs of you that are then converted to the 3D simulation by Crisalix software using AI technology. A variety of imaging tools are then used to produce the simulation that you will be able to discuss with Dr. Forley. He also has a “morphing” tool that will show you the transition from before to after on the computer. Although the outcome of your surgery cannot be precisely matched to a computer simulation, the technology assists in your ability to visualize the changes being planned so you can give important feedback to Dr. Forley.
